Big Band Music for all Occasions
The popular 19-piece Swinglane Orchestra was formed in 1998 by former Navy Band Leader and Master Chief Musician, Larry Brown. Larry’s love for music and the big band sound led him to the formation of Swinglane, performing big band and jazz music throughout the area.
Swinglane consists of a group of professional musicians playing jazz, swing, and popular music that will keep the audience singing and dancing. The orchestra brings together five saxes, four trombones, four trumpets, piano, bass, drums, guitar, plus two talented vocalists.
While playing many swing selections from the big band greats of the 1940’s including Goodman, Dorsey, Ellington and Basie, ballroom dancers love the variety of foxtrots, waltzes, tangos sambas, jitterbugs and more offered by this versatile orchestra. Venues include corporate functions, ballroom and swing dances, public concerts, weddings/anniversaries, holiday parties and events, charity balls, and fundraising benefits.
You can catch the band on the last Tuesday of the month at the Parlor in Newport, RI. Concert history highlights includes the Island Moving Company's Annual Gala, First Night Newport, Easton’s Beach Concert Series, Bristol 4th of July Celebration, USS Massachusetts 50th Anniversary, RI Veterans Home, Newport Winter Festival, Astor’s Beechwood Big Band Night, WADK's Annual Christmas Concerts, Christmas at the Breakers and many, many more.
This group of professional musicians was led by Larry until his passing away in May 2010. Larry wanted Swinglane to continue on as it had, performing and playing the music that he loved, sharing the big band sound for all to hear and dance to. Larry Brown’s Swinglane Orchestra keeps on swinging thanks to its accomplished musicians and support of the Larry Brown family.
Retired Navy, Senior Chief Musician, Jack Rodway led the band for five years following Larry's passing. In 2015 long time member, retired Navy Senior Chief Musician Don Chilton took over leadership of the band.
